Our story

Pell Greenhouse was established in 1970 when Lee Pell rented 2 greenhouses (24,000 sq. ft.) to grow vegetables.  After a successful first year, Lee's brothers, Bob and Ken Pell, join his venture as Owners.  Lee focused on Sales, Bob on Operations & Maintenance and Ken on Shipping.  A few years later, their youngest brother, Roger, joined them with his Horticultural Degree from Michigan State University and became the Head Grower.  The business transitioned from vegetables to flowers as the Pell's branched out into the Wholesale Young Plant Market as well as growing Poinsettias and Mums to make it a year-round business.

The business grew and in 1990, Darin DeCator joined the Pell Brothers, learning everything he could about the greenhouse business and eventually became the General Manager.  Michael Pell (Ken's Son) joined the family business in 1992 and became involved in the transportation/delivery of their quality plants.

After 50 years of developing and operating a strong quality and service business, the Pell Brothers retired in 2020 and the business sold to employees Darin DeCator and Michael Pell. Today, Pell Greenhouse Inc., is a Wholesale Greenhouse located in Hudsonville, Michigan and has grown to a 12+ acre (512,000 sq. ft.) covered facility, complete with cooler, loading docks, flood floors, benches for propagating and 5+ acres of outdoor mum production.  They continue to service the Wholesale Young Plant Market, grow Poinsettias and Mums and have added servicing Garden Centers as well as Spring and Summer Production as a sub-grower for "big-box" stores.  Pell Greenhouses, Inc., continues the same strong quality and service as things develop and change in the industry.
